Weekly Newsletter
The sixth grade teachers send home a newsletter each Friday. Below you will find the most recent newsletter so you can keep up with events and important dates in our classroom.

Dear Parents:
Midterms were sent home today. Please look them over and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to send a note or e-mail me. The sixth graders are really working hard in all of their classes.
READING: We read a story about the Great Flood of 1993. We also watched some video clips about the flood. The students were really interested in this natural disaster because it was something that happened right in our own backyards. We are still going to read some stories from the flood of 2008, and students will be comparing what they have read and watched in the videos between the two floods. We have really been working on comparing and contrasting between different stories. We have also been trying to make sure we are using evidence from the text to support our ideas.
MATH:We worked on scale drawings this week and continued to use ratios and proportions in the classroom. We ended the week with doing an activity where the students were given some snacks and they had to find the ratios and created proportions to figure out how much they needed to serve groups of people. Next week, we will work with finding percents of numbers.
SCIENCE: I had a great time opening everyone’s science projects this week. It was really interesting to see which ideas were able to support the chip and which ones allowed it to break. Students should be getting their results next week. We took our science test today, and those should be handed back Monday or Tuesday. Next week, we will begin the next chapter on how plants reproduce.
Upcoming Events:
Nov. 28-29- Thanksgiving Break- No School
Dec. 11- 2:00 Dismissal
Dec. 17- Christmas Concert 7:00
Dec. 20- Christmas Parties at 2:00 and end of 2nd quarter
Dec. 23-Jan.5- Winter Break
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hodgson
